Adirondack Veterans Association

Description: Before disbanding Veterans of the Foreign Wars of the U.S. Hamilton County Post 7228, formed in 1975, rented the building for its post home from Adirondack Veterans Association. When the VFW disbanded in 2014 the AVA took over the post and expanded membership to any U.S. citizen throughout Hamilton County who is currently serving or has completed his or her contract period of service in any of the United States military services, including the Reserves and National Guard.

Description: The Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce is a vital group working to support a healthy and sound economy for the region. The Chamber advocates, promotes, and improves the quality of life in our communities.  It fosters the development of healthy businesses and institutions through direct services, networking, and outreach. The Chamber also operates the Town of Lake Pleasant Information Office.

Friends of the Lake Pleasant Public Library

Description: The purpose of the Friends of the Lake Pleasant Public Library   is to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library: to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts and bequests to the library; and to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services, facilities and programs for the community. Meets second Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at the library.

Hamilton County Twigs

Description: A group of volunteers working to promote the welfare of Speculator Primary Care Center; Speculator, Piseco and Wells volunteer ambulance corps; paramedic “fly cars;” and local students pursuing careers in the health field. Twigs has donated more than $520,000 over the past 21 years. Most of its revenues come from Twigs Treasures House at the corner of Rt. 8 and Page St. (opens Friday of Memorial Day Weekend) and its annual Craft Fair at the Speculator Ball Field. Goods at Twigs Treasures House are both donated and “sold” by donation. Meetings are held second Wednesdays May through October starting at 7 p.m. at Lake Pleasant Firehouse.

Lake Pleasant Senior Citizens Group

Description: Lake Pleasant Senior Citizens Group provides those age 60 and older with a forum to express their concerns and interests, promotes a more active role/voice in the community, and provides recreational and social activities. Membership is open to area residents, property owners, and merchants age 60 and older. Membership is granted after receipt of annual dues of $10 and approval by a majority vote of the board. Meetings are fourth Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

NUTRITIONAL MEAL SITE:  The group hosts an Office for the Aging Nutritional Meal Site; lunch is 12-1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (not legal holidays) for $3 for seniors and $4.80 for those under age 60 (caretakers). DEMENTIA CAREGIVER SUPPORT:  Its Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets second Mondays from 10-11 a.m. Call Stacey Barcomb at 518-832-4992 for more info.

SHOPPING BUS:  Through an OFA grant the group runs a shopping bus to area malls for those age 60 and over the third Wednesday of each month. To make reservations call Doris at 518-548-8808. For more information about the group call President Pauline Slack at 518-548-7638.

Lake Pleasant-Sacandaga Association

Description: The general purpose of the Lake Pleasant – Sacandaga Association is to afford a representative voice in civic and community affairs of interest to the property owners and residents of the area.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Hamilton County

Description: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Hamilton Counties purpose is to provide meaningful opportunities for older Americans ages 55 and older. RSVP shows you how you can apply the skills and wisdom you’ve acquired throughout your life to make a positive difference in the lives of others by placing volunteers in home-bound and hard to reach areas, so we can make a tangible difference in your community. We offer insurance, mileage reimbursement and there are no set hours, just the time you are willing to make for others.

Speculator Lions Club

Description: Comprised of men and women from Speculator, Lake Pleasant, Arietta, and Wells, this affiliate of Lions International has raised funds for worthy causes for over 50 years.  New members are welcome.
