Town of Lake Pleasant’s Timeline

One of the best ways to describe the Town of Lake Pleasant today might be that this rural community is a haven within a wilderness. Not just a secluded and safe place within the wild and untamed forest of the Adirondacks, but a place where people go to escape from the chaotic and busy life outside the Adirondack Conservation’s Blue Line. As such, many travel every year to the quiet Town of Lake Pleasant and its village, Speculator. As for those who have moved here to start a new life, either today or in the past, they are a testimony of mankind facing the elements of nature and learning how to live in harmony with the wilderness while trying to keep up with the times. One can argue that the history of the people of Lake Pleasant is that of learning how to find balance with man’s advancing technologies and ideologies while preserving and living in a wild untamed terrain.
