Speculator Volunteer Ambulance Corps was organized in 1970, and has been serving the Town of Lake Pleasant and the Village of Speculator ever since. It currently has 32 members – 2 Certified First Responders, 13 Basic EMTs, 9 motor vehicle operators, 4 administratve members and 1 medical director. The Corps is a fully volunteer agency; its sole source of income is voluntary contributions. There is never a charge for services rendered, no members are paid for their services, and no local tax monies are used for its operation. The Corps is fully certified by the New York State Department of Health. It has a lengthy transport time for patients – the nearest hospital is 45 miles away! Helicopter transport may be utilized for major trauma incidents, and provides a transport time of some 22 minutes to Albany Medical Center.
